Here are some examples of recent drum recordings…

Each of these examples uses a slightly different mic setup to achieve the necessary  style we were looking for. Some are mixed for the overall track – some are more ‘stand-alone’ examples.

Our full kit mic’ing setup is usually an 11 mic setup…

KICK IN, KICK OUT, SNARE TOP, SNARE BOTTOM, HH, TOM 1, TOM 2, TOM 3, OH L, OH R and ROOM.

Our standard overhead mic configuration is ORTF but we can record in XY or Spaced if preferred.

We also tend to use a hybrid Glynn Johns/Recorderman setup for tracks requiring a more vintage vibe.

Drum Mics include…

KICK: Audix D6, Fet47 Clone
SNARE: SM57s, Beyer M201, Shure SM7B
HH: Shure SM7B, AKG 451, AT4041
TOMS: SE 4400a, Sennheiser 509
OVERHEADS: SE 4400a, SE8
ROOM: JZ V67
